Cooperation Between Russia, China and South Africa Goes Beyond Economy, Expert Says

South Africa is to host the upcoming joint naval military exercise with Russia and China from February 17-27. This will be the second naval drill the three BRICS members have held. The first exercise took place in November 2019.
Common interests of Russia, China, and South Africa are not limited to only economy, Akram Kharief, founder and host of Algerian military information website Menadefense, said in an interview with Sputnik, commenting on the future exercise of the Russian, Chinese, and South African navies.

"So we are on three countries which cover three oceans and which see their zones of influence and their zones of military activity developing exponentially. It's also interesting to see that once again we find the same players from BRICS - South Africa, Russia, and China," he said. "We see a convergence of points of view and a convergence of interests that goes beyond the economic aspect."

According to the expert, the current situation shows that South Africa is "holding firm in terms of its proximity, its geopolitical neutrality and its desire to join a multipolar world which would be in its interest."

He elaborated further that South Africa has been experiencing the unipolar world for the past 30 years and it "has looked at the fact that it is on the fringes of that world" and that eventually Pretoria would have experienced economic regression over time.

"So I think [this is] where their desire to join this rather multipolar world comes from," he argued.

South Africa joined BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) in 2010, after which the international bloc was renamed BRICS.

While Russia and China have annually held military naval exercises since 2012, their BRICS ally, South Africa joined their initiative and hosted their first trilateral naval drills in November 2019 called "Mosi", which means "smoke" in Tswana, one of the 11 official South African languages.

Three years later, the three countries are preparing for the upcoming second trilateral military naval drills "Mosi II". South African Ambassador to Moscow Mzuvukile Maqetuka expressed hope that the exercises will become annual.
"Looking at the track record already now from 2019, it is an ongoing annual event. And I am expecting that all chances are that even in 2024 there will be another exercise," he noted.

This statement was made amid western criticism over South Africa's cooperation with Russia.
Earlier, during his visit to South Africa in late January, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented on the western criticism of the trilateral exercises.
"As for naval exercises, I think there is nothing even to comment on. Three sovereign countries conduct exercises without violating any norms of international law. I don't understand how they can cause a 'mixed' reaction," Lavrov told reporters, adding: "US colleagues believe that only they can conduct exercises around the world. Now they are actively engaged in naval exercises within the framework of the Indo-Pacific strategies around China, in the South China Sea, in the Taiwan Strait, and this does not cause any mixed reaction from anyone," the diplomat noted.

The South African Department of Foreign Affairs, in turn, said in January that the country, "like any independent and sovereign state, has a right to conduct its foreign relations in line with its diplomatic relations and national interests."
"South Africa sees Exercise Mosi II as an opportunity to contribute towards further strengthening the strong bonds that exist between South Africa, Russia and China,” the department said.

No peace until US moves out of Persian Gulf – senior Iranian official

Mohsen Rezaee, a member of the Expediency Discernment Council, has said preconditions include reparations and security guarantees

For the ongoing conflict between Iran and the US to conclude, the latter must withdraw its military forces from the Persian Gulf, according to a member of the advisory board of Iran’s supreme leader.

Mohsen Rezaee, a retired major general and former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), added that Tehran would also seek full restitution for the damage done and ironclad security guarantees from Washington.

In an interview with Iran’s SNN TV broadcaster published on Saturday, the member of the Expediency Discernment Council said that the “presence of the US in the Persian Gulf has been the main cause of insecurity over the past 50 years.”

“The end of the war is also in our hands,” Rezaee claimed, naming the “US withdrawal from the Persian Gulf” among the key prerequisites. Additionally, Iran expects to receive reparations from the ...

US-made copy of Shahed drone used to stage false-flag attacks on region: Iran Armed Forces

The spokesman for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters has accused the United States and Israel of deploying a rebranded copy of Iran’s Shahed-136 drone, designated “Lucas,” to carry out attacks on civilian infrastructure in regional countries as part of a deliberate false-flag operation aimed at framing the Islamic Republic.

In an official statement released today, the spokesman explained that after suffering military setbacks on the battlefield and failing to build political coalitions against Iran, the enemy has resorted to deception.

The statement specifically warned that the objective of these operations is to “create doubt and accuse the Islamic Republic of Iran” while sowing discord between Tehran and its neighbors, thereby undermining the legitimacy of Iran’s defensive actions.

The spokesman pointed to a series of “suspicious attacks” in recent days on facilities in friendly neighboring countries, including Turkey, Kuwait, and Iraq, which Western media outlets and hostile ...

The IRGC strikes US-run al-Kharj air base in wave 51 of retaliation

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has announced the execution of the 51st wave of Operation True Promise 4, launching missile strikes against US military installations across the region in retaliation for ongoing American-Israeli aggression against the country.

The IRGC announced the latest wave was carried out using a combination of liquid-fuel and solid-fuel missiles against US terrorist army forces at the Al Kharj Air Base in Saudi Arabia.

According to the IRGC statement, Al Kharj base served as the "origin of aggressions against the Islamic homeland," functioning as the staging ground for US F-35 and F-16 fighter jets involved in attacks on Iran.

The base also houses fuel supply aircraft and serves as the main hub for American AWACS surveillance planes.

Concurrently, the spokesman for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters confirmed that the fiftieth wave of the operation struck multiple US terrorist army bases.

They include the Al Dhafra Air Base and Fujairah in the UAE, Jufair in ...
